About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the engineering team, including QA, including reporting lines, team structure, hiring, and performance
  • Define and implement AI engineering workflows, including agent-driven development, stacked pull requests, and security and reliability guardrails
  • Improve upstream quality by teaching AI systems to execute effectively
  • Facilitate major technical architecture discussions and make decisions about the workflow-based platform
  • Prototype and ship code to uncover new opportunities and better ways of working
  • Set engineering strategy alongside the CTO and Product Lead
  • Manage relationships with technology partners such as Google and AWS
  • Form a leadership triad with the CTO and Product Lead to decide priorities and what needs rethinking
  • Ensure day-to-day engineering execution runs through the role
  • Establish AI engineering workflows with usage and quality metrics reviewed monthly
  • Lead at least one team-structure or engineering-practice change with measurable delivery-speed or quality improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 4 years as an engineering manager
  • Experience leading engineering in a marketplace or SaaS platform business
  • Experience building workflow-based platforms with complex state management, such as approval flows or order lifecycles
  • Familiarity with business process modelling, such as BPMN
  • Experience changing how an existing team works, not only building a new team from scratch
  • Build with AI tools and agents day to day and explain how output quality is ensured
  • Experience reshaping an engineering organization or introducing new engineering practices
  • Confident challenging senior leaders, with experience to support decisions
  • Hands-on coding and prototyping ability
  • Existing legal right to work in Spain; visa sponsorship is not offered
  • Candidates should mention their current location in the application
