About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Carry out agreed operational procedures under instruction and according to documented methods
- Assist with maintenance, installation, and problem resolution activities
- Assist with virtual and physical infrastructure, network, and storage builds and rebuilds in laboratory and customer environments
- Create, improve, and maintain accurate technical documentation
- Assist with routine maintenance of IT platforms to ensure secure and efficient operation
- Contribute to small project build and implementation, including testing and transition activities
- Record time, progress, and outcomes accurately
- Assist with planning and implementation of maintenance and installation work
- Follow support and maintenance procedures at customer sites while accompanied or supervised
- Investigate operational problems and incidents, escalating issues beyond current experience
- Follow applicable security procedures and understand service-level agreement requirements
- Complete formal study within the agreed timeframe
- Learn Agile and DevOps practices through team ceremonies
- Develop familiarity with software supporting Cross Domain products, including Java-based components
- Share learning with peers and other apprentices
- Suggest improvements to processes, templates, and documentation
Requirements
What you’ll need- Interest in computing, networks, and how systems fit together, demonstrated through home laboratory work, personal projects, coursework, or prior study
- Sound written and verbal communication
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Willingness to follow procedures exactly when required
- Methodical approach to fault finding
- Reliability and punctuality
- Ability to plan personal workload with support
- Willingness to ask questions and receive direction
- Ability to work within a team and maintain professional conduct at customer sites
- Understanding of discretion required when working with sensitive information
- Completion of Year 12 or equivalent with satisfactory results in mathematics or a technical subject; OR
- Certificate III or IV in Information Technology or a related discipline; OR
- Partial completion of a degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, or a related field; OR
- Demonstrated practical competence acquired through self-directed study or prior work experience
- Exposure to Linux or Windows server administration, VMware or similar virtualisation platforms, TCP/IP networking, firewalls, Bash, PowerShell, or Python is useful but not required
- May be subject to security and export control restrictions based on nationality, previously held nationalities, and place of birth
