About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead development, implementation, and administration of site Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions
  • Formulate and execute a strategic quality plan with plant and Balchem leadership
  • Integrate quality priorities into operational excellence processes
  • Manage CAPA programs, including customer and vendor complaints, holds, audit nonconformances, and root cause analysis
  • Manage change control and portions of the commercialization process
  • Develop and implement food safety, preventive controls, and prerequisite programs, including HACCP/HARPC, pest control, recall, allergen, sanitation, and environmental monitoring
  • Maintain customer quality satisfaction through controls for raw materials, in-process materials, production processes, environmental conditions, and finished products
  • Develop the site quality team and cross-functional teams through evaluations, training plans, employee relations, and performance management
  • Ensure regulatory and third-party certification compliance
  • Conduct or coordinate customer, vendor, third-party audits, and regulatory inspections
  • Execute operational excellence plans and support customer site visits and audits
  • Lead commercial product onboarding, trial reviews, specification creation, formula and label reviews, and inspection plans
  • Manage departmental staffing, management review, budget, expenses, and capital projects
  • Partner with site leaders and cross-functional teams on goals, decisions, training, and development
  • Execute internal audit programs and ensure corrective actions are completed
  • Drive improvements in quality KPIs, including compliance, first-pass quality, complaints, disposals, inventory health, CAPA closure, environmental and sanitation performance
  • Collaborate with R&D, production, and commercial teams on new products, processes, equipment, and launches
  • Quantify launch risks, communicate mitigations, and support first-time makes
  • Support preparation for customer visits and external audits

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant field
  • Project Management & Change Management Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in food, supplement, or related industry
  • 5+ years of functional leadership experience
  • Familiarity with FDA GFSI Scheme (ie SQF, BRC)
  • Certification focused on Quality and Food Safety for Supply Chain requirement: PCQI or HACCP
  • Experience operating in an FDA regulated environment, ideally food or dietary supplement
  • Ability to assess and mitigate food safety, regulatory, and cost risks
  • Ability to apply sanitation principles effectively
  • Application of Statistical Process Control (SPC) for process evaluation and improvements
  • Effective project management skills, including prioritization and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs; required to stand, walk, sit, and reach
  • Ability to ensure compliance with FDA, EPA, OSHA, state and federal agencies, and third-party certifications such as GFSI, Kosher, Halal, and RSPO
