About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care
  • Assist with activities of daily living, hygiene, mobility, and nutritional intake
  • Collect patient specimens and data, including vital signs and input/output measurements
  • Document objective data and routine patient care in medical records
  • Recognize and report abnormalities or changes in patient health status and treatment responses
  • Perform delegated procedures such as blood draws, Foley catheter removal, EKGs, and EKG monitoring
  • Provide supplies, support, and assistance for unit-specific procedures under licensed-professional supervision
  • Perform receptionist and clerical duties and support communication throughout the department
  • Maintain patient records, admission/transfer/discharge information, progress notes, and consent forms
  • Scan or file reports and chart forms; maintain patient education materials
  • Assist with ordering patient specimens and processing physician orders in the electronic medical record
  • Maintain office, dietary, and medical supplies; reconcile deliveries
  • Monitor electronic equipment such as patient ID scanners and laptop computers
  • Transport patients, including pre-operative and immediate post-operative patients, as assigned
  • Participate in operating-room turnover as assigned
  • Float among Northern Colorado Medical Center, Banner Fort Collins Medical Center, and Banner North Colorado Medical Center–Loveland Campus

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Current BLS certification is required
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in state of practice is required for new hires and transfers
  • Skills and abilities typically attained with 1 year of medical clerical experience; preferably in a hospital or physician office setting, or prior experience in customer service
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Effective human relations and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Computer literacy and keyboarding skills
  • Depending on department assignment, minimum passing score of 85% on ECG or EEG test with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias and epileptiform activity
  • Successful completion of a unit-approved basic electrocardiogram interpretation course, electroencephalographic interpretation course, or on-the-job training, depending on assignment
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Arizona Criminal History Affidavit are required only for specified Arizona behavioral health/home care assignments
  • Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure preferred in Arizona
  • Recent healthcare experience preferred
  • Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program preferred
