About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Schedule patient treatments or diagnostic procedures for assigned area
  • Complete pre-registration, receive physician orders, verify insurance, and obtain pre-authorizations and pre-certifications
  • Answer telephone inquiries related to scheduling
  • Schedule patients using computerized scheduling systems and resolve scheduling conflicts
  • Document patient reschedules
  • Enter patient information and maintain current database records
  • Prepare charts and manage files within regulatory requirements
  • Compile and report statistical data
  • Distribute educational materials to patients and families when necessary
  • Respond to questions or refer patients to appropriate clinical staff
  • Provide administrative support to the assigned unit
  • Interface with physicians, office staff, patients, family members, clinical staff, and co-workers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • 2 years of medical clerical experience, preferably in a hospital central scheduling or physician office scheduling setting
  • Medical terminology is required
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Effective human relations and communication skills
  • Proficient with commonly used office software and computers
  • Ability to use computerized scheduling systems
  • Ability to maintain accurate statistical records, gather data, and produce reports
  • Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen and background check (includes: employment, criminal and education) are required
  • Must work at least 2 shifts a month
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential information
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and set priorities
