About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support patients and families through the financial aspects of oncology care
  • Coordinate, clarify and communicate insurance, authorization, registration, financial counseling and claims information
  • Perform pre-registration and registration processes
  • Determine initial authorizations based on predicted treatment plans
  • Obtain insurance benefit information for inpatient, outpatient, prescription, travel and housing needs
  • Verify insurance coverage and obtain authorizations and notifications throughout treatment
  • Collect required insurance signatures and documentation
  • Document insurance and authorization information in patient records to support reimbursement
  • Monitor and update insurance data, authorizations, preferred providers and treatment-plan changes
  • Provide financial counseling and explain benefits, billing issues, company policies and payment options
  • Help patients access alternative funding and community resources
  • Act as liaison among patients, families, clinical teams, PFS, facilities and payors
  • Calculate patient liability and collect deposits and co-payments
  • Resolve outstanding issues and patient concerns while supporting accounts receivable performance
  • Provide leadership and training to financial team members as needed
  • Work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and prioritize patient-care-related financial needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate’s Degree, with a focus in social work, healthcare administration or finance
  • Minimum of three years of diversified experience in a hospital Patient Registration/Financial Services setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding of common insurance and payor types, authorization requirements and alternative financial resources
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communications and human relations skills
  • Accurate and efficient keyboarding skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Flexibility in responding to multiple demands
  • Employees in specified behavioral health settings serving children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it during employment
  • An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, healthcare administration or finance preferred
  • Prior experience as a social worker or financial counselor preferred
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred
