About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Select and place surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery
- Scrub and provide instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedures
- Prepare for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies and ensuring instruments are in good working order
- Review case carts for correct instruments and supplies and plan ahead for upcoming surgical case needs
- Anticipate the surgeon's needs, pass instruments, and retract tissue
- Demonstrate aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout procedures
- Dispose of sharps and trash and place used supplies into case carts for processing
- Participate in counting sharps, instruments, and sponges
- Prepare instruments for cleaning following each case
- Ensure surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate
- Assist with operating room turnover between cases
- Participate in stocking, replenishing supplies, and cleaning operating rooms
- Provide business support and assigned administrative tasks as needed
- Participate in or lead training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Qualified candidates must have surgical technologist experience
- Must work at least two days a month
- High school diploma/GED
- Current basic life support certification
- Where applicable, must be registered with State Regulatory Agency
- Manual dexterity
- Ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations
- Ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly
- Ability to respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient
- Must stay abreast of new developments in the field
- Graduation from a certified school of surgical technology or two years of operating room experience preferred
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred
- Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen and background check required
