About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare patients for examinations and treatment by recording vital signs, symptoms, measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores
- Report patient-condition changes to clinicians
- Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, including phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and EKGs
- Use universal blood and body-fluid precautions and personal protective equipment
- Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process
- Coordinate patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, scheduling, and test-result communication
- Administer medications according to established policies and procedures or clinician direction
- Maintain complete medical records and provide accurate billing information
- Clean and disinfect equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; follow sterilization procedures, manufacturer recommendations, and OSHA guidelines
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs
- Order supplies and stock patient-care areas
- Manage medication-related tasks, including expired medications, equipment, and recalls
- Complete required onboarding, orientation, and simulation training
- Work under provider supervision and interact with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external healthcare contacts
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
- Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations
- Active Medical Assistant Certification required
- Certification or additional training must meet Meaningful Use requirements
- BLS certification required
- Active certification such as RMA with current AMT membership, CMA with current AAMA membership, CCMA with current NHA membership, or NCMA with current NCCT membership
- Strong computer skills, including medical software
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple changing priorities effectively and in an organized fashion
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Arizona Criminal History Affidavit required at hire only for specified behavioral health roles serving children
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments, and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software preferred
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred
