About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatment by recording vital signs, symptoms, measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores
  • Report changes in patient condition to clinicians
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, including phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and EKGs
  • Chaperone patients as needed and use universal precautions and personal protective equipment
  • Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process
  • Coordinate patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, scheduling, and communicating test results
  • Provide clerical support, maintain complete medical records, and supply billing information
  • Clean and disinfect equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Order supplies and stock patient care areas
  • Manage medication-related tasks, including expired medications, equipment, and recalls
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers and support clinicians, patients, and families
  • Complete required onboarding, orientation, and simulation training
  • Work under direct supervision of providers and interact with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external healthcare contacts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification required
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for Meaningful Use
  • BLS certification required
  • Active certification such as RMA with current AMT membership, CMA with current AAMA membership, CCMA with current NHA membership, or NCMA with current NCCT membership
  • Strong computer skills, including ability to work with medical software
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Criminal History Affidavit required only for specified behavioral health clinical settings serving children
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments, insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software preferred
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred
