About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Take and record vital signs, symptoms, measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores
  • Report patient condition changes to clinicians
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, including phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and EKGs
  • Act as chaperon as needed and follow universal precautions and PPE requirements
  • Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process
  • Coordinate patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, scheduling, and communicating test results
  • Administer medications according to established policies and procedures or clinician direction
  • Maintain complete medical records and provide accurate billing information
  • Clean and disinfect equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; coordinate equipment repairs
  • Order supplies and stock patient care areas
  • Perform medication-related tasks, including expired medication and equipment checks and recalls
  • Complete onboarding, orientation, and simulation training activities as directed
  • Interact with providers, staff, patients, families, physician offices, healthcare institutions, community providers, and agencies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification required
  • Certification or additional training must meet Meaningful Use requirements
  • BLS certification required
  • Active certification such as RMA with current AMT membership, CMA with current AAMA membership, CCMA with current NHA membership (test administered after 7/1/2017 only), or NCMA with current NCCT membership
  • Strong computer skills, including ability to work with medical software
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities effectively and in an organized fashion
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Arizona Criminal History Affidavit required at hire only for applicable behavioral health clinical settings serving children
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments, and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software preferred
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred
