About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatment by recording vital signs, symptoms, measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores
  • Report patient conditions indicating possible changes to clinicians
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, including phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and EKGs
  • Serve as chaperon as needed and follow universal precautions and PPE requirements
  • Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process
  • Coordinate patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, scheduling, and test communications
  • Act as a resource to clinicians to support optimal patient care
  • Administer medications according to policies, procedures, or clinician direction
  • Provide clerical support, maintain complete medical records, and supply accurate billing information
  • Clean and disinfect equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; follow sterilization, manufacturer, and OSHA procedures
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs
  • Order supplies and stock patient care areas
  • Manage medication-related tasks, including expired medications, equipment, and recalls
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers
  • Complete required onboarding, orientation, and simulation training
  • Interact with providers, staff, physicians, patients, families, healthcare institutions, community providers, agencies, and physician offices under direct provider supervision

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification required
  • Certification or additional training must meet Meaningful Use requirements
  • BLS certification required
  • Active certification such as RMA with current AMT membership, CMA with current AAMA membership, CCMA with current NHA membership, or NCMA with current NCCT membership
  • Strong computer skills, including ability to work with medical software
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities effectively and in an organized fashion
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Criminal History Affidavit required only for specified behavioral health employees
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments, insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software preferred
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred
