About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Room patients, take vital signs, assist with procedures, and update electronic medical records accurately and timely
  • Provide customer service and direct patient care
  • Answer phones, check in patients, schedule appointments, follow up with referrals, order supplies, and stock rooms
  • Prepare patients for exams and treatments; record symptoms, measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores
  • Report patient condition changes to clinicians
  • Assist providers with exams and minor in-office procedures, including phlebotomies, ear irrigation, and EKGs
  • Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process
  • Coordinate pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, appointments, tests, and ancillary medical treatments
  • Communicate test results to patients and act as a resource to clinicians
  • Administer medications according to established policies and procedures or clinician direction
  • Maintain complete medical records and provide accurate billing information
  • Clean and disinfect equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; perform basic equipment maintenance
  • Order supplies and stock patient care areas; manage medication-related tasks
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers and support the team concept
  • Work under direct supervision of providers and interact with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external healthcare contacts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification is required
  • Certification must be from AMT, AAMA, NHA, or NCCT
  • BLS certification required
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for Meaningful use
  • Strong computer skills, including ability to work with medical software
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained during employment for specified behavioral health settings
  • Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire for specified behavioral health settings
  • Must have availability to work Monday-Friday, typically 8am-5pm
  • Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen, and background check required
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments, and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software preferred
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred
