About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Answer phones and take patient meal orders
  • Educate patients on physician-ordered diets
  • Visit patients to obtain or discuss menu selections based on prescribed diets
  • Check patient selections against defined diet requirements and make modified diet decisions
  • Enter or record daily patient meal selections and preferences
  • Provide standard information about prescribed diets and request dietary staff assistance when needed
  • Edit patient menus, tally daily menu item counts, and prepare production sheets
  • Lead patient tray assembly and meal service processes as needed
  • Ensure food presentation meets quality standards and check trays for menu compliance
  • Deliver and serve meals, including handling special requests, snacks, and nourishments
  • Interact with patients, families, food service staff, nursing staff, and dietary staff
  • Complete diet office processes and provide lead responsibility in the supervisor's absence
  • Maintain dietary, food quality, sanitation, and customer service standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Reading, writing and mathematical skills
  • Understanding of nutrition services, common modified diets, and portion measures
  • Skills and knowledge in health care nutrition services typically gained through 3 years of related experience and/or education
  • Ability to effectively lead assignments and reschedule staff assignments in the absence of supervisor
  • Ability to work effectively with business computer software systems and point of sale systems
  • Ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests as required
  • Demonstrated effective customer service skills
  • Minimum commitment of 2 shifts a month
  • Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen and background check is required
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation is required
