About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Schedule initial and follow-up appointments for cancer patients
  • Coordinate scheduling for physicians, medical facilities, specialized medical practices, surgical procedures, diagnostic tests, pain management, and other specialized tests and treatments
  • Coordinate patients, providers, facility resources, ancillary staff, records, referrals, authorizations, and payers
  • Receive and initiate calls with patients, providers, provider offices, and facilities
  • Receive physician orders and schedule or reschedule appointments, tests, and procedures using electronic medical record and scheduling systems
  • Identify alternative scheduling solutions while following protocols and ensuring patient safety
  • Provide appointment information, pre- and post-test instructions, locations, and directions
  • Answer questions within guidelines and refer clinical questions as appropriate
  • Communicate with patients, facilities, providers, and clinical colleagues through phone, chat, email, electronic medical record messaging, and other digital channels
  • Build relationships and anticipate patient and provider needs to deliver an easy, empathetic, solution-oriented patient experience

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Two years of scheduling experience in a physician’s office or hospital
  • Medical terminology may be required for some assignments
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with commonly used office software
  • Ability to use software typically used for medical practice management and scheduling
  • Knowledge of ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS coding strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of various types of insurance plans and/or workers’ compensation preferred
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish may be preferred for some assignments
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred
