About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide personalized coordination, clarification, and communication of administrative aspects of patient care
  • Perform patient needs assessments, insurance and authorization verification, registration, documentation, and appointment scheduling
  • Assist clinic workload and administrative tasks in a high-volume Neuroscience Institute
  • Perform patient intake, including pre-registration and registration
  • Obtain insurance benefit information, authorizations, notifications, signatures, and required documentation
  • Document insurance and authorization information in the patient records system to support reimbursement
  • Maintain and update insurance data, authorizations, preferred providers, and treatment-plan changes
  • Provide administrative support using electronic medical records, billing, data management, business software, and databases
  • Schedule physician appointments, tests, procedures, and surgeries; provide preparation instructions
  • Manage patient documentation and act as liaison among patients, billing departments, and payors
  • Deliver customer service and communicate with patients, departments, referral networks, and providers
  • Resolve scheduling conflicts and support a seamless patient and family experience
  • Manage medical records and obtain records from hospitals, practice offices, and ancillary services
  • Respond to referrals for tests, procedures, and specialty visits
  • Reconcile charge tickets and identify missing charges or diagnosis codes
  • Work independently under general supervision and assist other departments as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Medical office experience required
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Three or more years working in a hospital or medical office
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and make independent decisions using good judgment
  • Excellent communication, human relations, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal relations and process coordination skills
  • State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and throughout employment for employees working at Banner MD Anderson on the Banner University Medical Center Phoenix campus
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and throughout employment for employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital
  • Knowledge of payer contract terms and processes
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information and sensitive issues
  • Proficiency with common office software and hospital software for patient intake, medical history updates, scheduling, and billing
  • Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen, and background check required
