About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Independently perform complex echocardiography studies for pediatric patients and adults with congenital heart disease
- Perform transthoracic echocardiograms in inpatient, outpatient, satellite clinic, operating room, cardiac catheter lab, emergency department, neonatal and pediatric intensive care settings
- Record, interrogate, quantify, and measure normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology
- Produce high-quality images and prepare preliminary reports and documentation for timely interpretation
- Verify provider orders and perform procedures according to established policies and protocols
- Participate in quality improvement and laboratory accreditation activities
- Mentor and precept sonographers, students, and trainees
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures and treatment
- Assist with invasive/interventional and intraoperative procedures
- Perform equipment quality control, troubleshooting, and maintenance coordination
- Maintain patient, personnel, and visitor safety and confidentiality
- Support department workflow, inventory, team-lead functions, and travel between facilities
- Work with physicians, APPs, medical imaging and nursing teams, medical staff, patients, families, and regulatory agencies
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be able to work in a dynamic, expanding, fast-paced accredited pediatric echo lab
- Registered pediatric cardiac sonographer
- Transthoracic echocardiograms for adult and pediatric patients with basic to complicated congenital heart disease
- Ability to travel between hospital campuses, satellite clinics, and portable-equipment locations
- Flexibility to travel and accept last-minute assignments
- Open to holiday and after-hours call at various hospital locations
- Strong time management abilities
- Outstanding people skills
- Required national certification from ARDMS or CCI
- Required RDCS-PE or RCCS pediatric cardiac sonography certification
- BLS certification required
- Pediatric certification required
- Graduation from an approved Cardiac Ultrasound school designated by the AMA and American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine
- Minimum 3 years of pediatric echocardiography experience in a dedicated pediatric echocardiography center, or equivalent pediatric experience in a combined adult/pediatric echo center
- Ability to communicate effectively, demonstrate human relations skills, analyze data, and solve problems
- Preferred: RVT for Vascular and RCS for echo certifications
- Preferred: current or recent cardiac critical care experience as a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer
- Preferred: fetal echo, stress echo, or 3D echocardiography experience
