About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate patients' functional abilities and limitations and determine whether intervention is needed
- Establish plans of care, measurable treatment goals, and initiate discharge planning
- Implement individualized physical therapy treatment plans and provide skilled treatment
- Assess treatment effectiveness and modify plans of care as indicated
- Educate physicians, nurses, patients, families/caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams
- Work with a specialty-certified Physical Therapist mentor to advance clinical decision-making and prepare for certification examination
- Complete timely, evidence-based documentation of evaluations, treatments, and patient progress
- Communicate patient information, treatment results, and progress to care teams and physicians
- Adapt assignments to mentorship hours, caseload, scheduling, and staffing needs
- Supervise and delegate tasks to PTAs, ATCs, therapy technicians, and students
- Participate in department operations, meetings, process improvement, productivity activities, and evidence-based guideline development
- Interact with staff, physicians, patients, families, healthcare institutions, community providers, agencies, educational institutions, and professional organizations
- Complete all Physical Therapy Certification or Residency Accreditation Standards requirements under mentor supervision
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must have graduated from an APTA accredited school of Physical Therapy, or equivalent
- Must possess a current Physical Therapy license within the State of practice; license must not be under suspension, revocation, probationary status, or subject to disciplinary proceedings or inquiry
- BLS certification required
- Must be actively enrolled in an accredited corresponding certification or residency program
- Must be committed to professional development
- Ability to become proficient with computer software applications commonly used in an automated patient care environment
- Ability to use patient care equipment, evaluation tools, therapeutic modalities, copier, multi-line telephone, fax machine, computer, pager, and miscellaneous office equipment
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred
