About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, coordinate, and administer systems for risk identification, investigation, and reduction
  • Perform risk assessments in clinical settings and inspect patient care areas
  • Develop, implement, and monitor entity-specific risk management plans and annual goals
  • Collaborate with quality and patient safety representatives on performance improvement plans, indicators, and goals
  • Participate in hospital, clinic, and ambulatory entity committees
  • Advise senior management, administrators, physicians, nurses, and other personnel on patient safety and risk management
  • Investigate potential or actual events and participate in root cause analyses
  • Report adverse drug events and sentinel events to appropriate parties
  • Collect, evaluate, analyze, and present risk management claims data and litigation information
  • Respond to professional and facility liability questions and assist with treatment, consent, AMA, and medical error disclosure issues
  • Develop loss prevention and patient safety programs and conduct education, inservices, and orientation
  • Recommend policy, procedure, and system changes to reduce risk and maintain regulatory standards
  • Assist claims teams and legal counsel with records, subpoenas, court orders, and agency investigations
  • Provide information and data for assigned-entity budget development
  • Participate in scheduled periodic call

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field
  • CPHRM required within two years of hire
  • Four to five years in Risk Management or equivalent experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Ability to influence change without direct authority
  • Negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of federal and state statutes specific to health care
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital or department policies, procedures and practices
  • Ability to manage and negotiate in emotional and confrontational situations
  • Hands-on patient care experience and background preferred
  • RN preferred
  • QA, Patient Safety, CPHQ, and/or ARM preferred
  • Patient safety certification preferred
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred
