About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a clinical expert, educator, consultant, and change leader
- Provide direct and indirect care for complex patients
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary and interprofessional teams on interdisciplinary plans of care and advanced nursing interventions
- Provide expert consultation for patients with complex healthcare needs
- Monitor patient care trends, quality outcomes, patient satisfaction, and cost-effective care
- Facilitate resolution of ethical conflicts in complex patient care situations
- Set and evaluate nursing practice standards based on professional specialty organizations and available evidence
- Conduct clinical inquiries and translate nursing research into practice
- Coach, mentor, and role-model nursing staff and clinical teams
- Identify professional development needs and provide instruction or resources
- Review, revise, and develop policies, protocols, and clinical practice guidelines
- Participate in workgroups, task forces, committees, and Clinical Consensus Groups
- Address staff and patient needs across multiple care units and the health system
- Lead and facilitate evidence-based practice changes to improve patient safety and quality of nursing care
- Influence care at patient, nursing, facility, and system levels
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completion of a master's degree in nursing
- Current RN license in the state of practice
- Certification to practice by the State Board of Nursing as a certified nurse specialist within the specialty area
- Current BLS certification
- Proficiency in computer applications and database management
- Exemplary professional demeanor and interpersonal relationship skills
- Knowledge of clinical care and patient treatment
- DNP or PhD preferred
- Previous relevant experience preferred
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred
