About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist with clinic workload and surgery scheduling in a high-volume Neuroscience Institute
- Coordinate case times for elective, urgent, or emergent surgeries and other procedures using a computerized scheduling system
- Verify physician privilege status and maintain confidential records
- Acquire authorization numbers, medical records, History and Physicals, and laboratory results
- Type and print physician orders; schedule and maintain physician block time and releases
- Enter orders, diagnostic test results, patient registration information, and patient charges
- Compile data and prepare statistical reports for management
- Conduct charge management audits and reconcile charge packet information
- Act as receptionist; answer phones, relay messages, greet and direct patients, visitors, physicians, and families
- Liaise among nursing units, physicians, and staff to relay patient data
- Enter facility work orders and supply orders; arrange repairs, equipment pickup, and delivery
- Maintain smooth workflow, set priorities, and handle confidential information with minimal supervision
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
- Surgery scheduling experience required
- 2 years of medical clerical experience typically attained; preferably in a hospital central scheduling or physician office scheduling setting
- Knowledge of medical terminology required
- Knowledge of payor contract terms and processes
- Excellent organizational skills
- Effective human relations and communication skills
- Effective teamworking skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and productivity standards
- Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software
- Ability to use computerized scheduling systems
- Ability to maintain accurate statistical records, gather data, and produce reports
- Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen and background check required
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred
