About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop, implement, execute and continuously improve BW Packaging’s EHS strategy
- Establish and standardize EHS governance models, policies, procedures and best practices across all sites
- Advise executive leadership on EHS risks, trends and regulatory impacts
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and local manufacturing safety regulations
- Conduct EHS audits, inspections and risk assessments
- Monitor emerging regulatory requirements and implement readiness plans
- Oversee incident investigations and completion of root cause corrective actions
- Partner with corporate and EMEA safety leadership and represent BW Packaging on corporate safety calls
- Develop and maintain safety programs including LOTO, arc flash protection, safe lifting and rigging, machine safety, fall protection and emergency response
- Lead behavior-based safety, near-miss reporting and safety Gemba programs
- Maintain centralized safety documentation and reporting systems
- Drive reduction of workplace injuries, incidents and occupational health risks
- Manage environmental compliance, permitting, reporting, audits and manufacturing-related environmental programs
- Manage U.S. Workers’ Compensation claims, return-to-work plans, reporting, costs and risks
- Develop and deliver EHS training for team members, leaders and contractors
- Oversee safety consultant and training-provider agreements
- Coach and mentor operational, field service, safety and People team leaders
- Build safety ownership, proactive risk identification and preventive behaviors
- Establish EHS KPIs and dashboards and present performance reports to executive leadership
- Foster accountability, continuous improvement and customer focus
- Train, coach and develop team members
- Review and approve time-off requests
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, set goals and manage performance
- Partner with the People team on development, performance documentation and employee relations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree required in safety, operations, engineering or related field
- 7+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience, preferably in manufacturing or industrial environments
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, NEBOSH IGC or NEBOSH Diploma strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success developing EHS programs and influencing safety culture across multiple sites
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and implement standardized EHS systems in complex operational environments
- Deep understanding of manufacturing safety standards and environmental regulations
- Significant experience with Workers’ Compensation
- Strong leadership and communication skills; ability to influence across diverse functions, levels and cultures
- Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on engagement
- Ability to sit or stand and work at a desk or workstation for extended periods
- Ability to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, and phone for prolonged periods
- Ability to read information on screens, documents, and presentations and communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to lift or transfer materials weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to climb stairs or ladders to access equipment
- Ability to work in office settings and manufacturing plants
- Ability to travel by air, car or train, up to 50%
