About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Contribute to BD Medication Delivery Solutions’ Injection Systems team
  • Provide technical and project leadership for complex product development and lifecycle management initiatives
  • Develop project strategies, align cross-functional teams, manage technical risks, and drive execution
  • Serve as an organizational spokesperson and advisor to management, customers, and stakeholders
  • Apply advanced engineering principles across multiple disciplines to solve complex technical problems
  • Develop technological concepts and mature them into commercial products
  • Lead major development programs across R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement, and external partners
  • Guide material, design, and process changes through the design control process
  • Develop technical solutions using experimental, computational, analytical, and statistical methods
  • Provide expertise in elastomeric materials and components, including selection, formulation, manufacturing, characterization, testing, design, supplier collaboration, and integration into drug delivery systems
  • Design, develop, and use in vivo and in vitro models to evaluate product performance and design improvements
  • Develop test methods, design test fixtures, and execute measurement system analyses
  • Plan, execute, and analyze Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Lead bench studies, tolerance analyses, design verification, design validation, supplier engagement, specifications, and technical reports
  • Perform advanced data analysis using statistics, regression, modeling, and transfer functions
  • Present technical data and conclusions to project teams, leadership, customers, and regulatory stakeholders
  • Support new product opportunities, business cases, technology strategy, and portfolio growth
  • Mentor and develop engineers and technical team members
  • Ensure compliance with BD quality policies, procedures, and practices

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelors/Masters/PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline
  • B.S.: 12+ years of progressive product development experience in a regulated industry
  • M.S.: 10+ years of progressive product development experience in a regulated industry
  • Ph.D.: 7+ years of progressive product development experience in a regulated industry
  • Strong technical judgment and extensive technical leadership skills
  • Demonstrated capability of leading R&D product development projects
  • Experience guiding teams/individuals to develop technical solutions to complex problems
  • Sound knowledge of engineering first principles
  • R&D functional planning, requirement generation, and technical DFSS/Design/Cross-functional reviews
  • Strong project management, prioritizing, and multitasking skills
  • Knowledge of solid modeling, such as SolidWorks or equivalent
  • Ability to clearly communicate concepts, ideas, and knowledge
  • Experience directing associates and leading small cross-functional groups
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project
  • Disciplined phase-gate product development processes and project planning
  • Proficiency with fixture design, including basic machining considerations, and developing test methods
  • Understanding of Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA)
  • Product development considerations for tightly controlled, high-volume manufacturing processes
  • Strong creative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma DMAIC practices and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies is preferred
