About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Underwrite and authorize comprehensive loan proposals for moderate to high complexity credit files ranging from $350,000 to $1.5 million
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis, investigations, and due diligence
  • Determine credit terms, pricing, repayment structures, and covenants
  • Review loan documentation and negotiate transaction structures with internal partners when required
  • Support resolution of compliance matters and material changes during transaction negotiation and structuring
  • Develop solutions meeting client and BDC needs through sound judgment, creativity, and problem-solving
  • Build and maintain working relationships with business centre colleagues and internal partners
  • Monitor changes to credit policies, procedures, processes, and emerging credit and regulatory trends
  • Coach new employees, mentor colleagues, and support knowledge sharing

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration, accounting, or a related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in credit analysis, loan adjudication, commercial lending, or a related financial services role
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or guiding colleagues in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, structure, and assess commercial financing transactions
  • Strong credit judgment and understanding of credit risk policies, practices, and governance expectations
  • Knowledge of BDC products, services, policies, processes, and procedures, or ability to quickly develop this knowledge
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and negotiation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and critical deadlines in a high-volume environment
  • Solid business acumen and understanding of small and medium-sized enterprises
  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • CPA or CFA designation considered a strong asset
  • Bilingualism in English and French considered a strong asset
