About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Partner with product managers, scientific and clinical stakeholders, internal stakeholders, and development and support teams to translate requirements into integrations, services, and solutions for scaling Beacon's data platform
Implement features with attention to data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability
Draft RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design phases
Solicit and incorporate input and help the team align on technical decisions
Ensure correctness when data moves between systems, including completeness, idempotency, and predictable behavior under partial failure
Improve operational robustness and ease of use of the Datastore and its services through documentation, tools, and dashboards
Design and scale backend data infrastructure involving PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-driven event pipelines, and GraphQL APIs
Lead the design and integration of services and components for data and event processing
Own pipelines delivering dataset snapshots into the warehouse
Collaborate with platform and application teams to implement APIs supporting clinical studies and digital health products

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of backend development experience
At least 2 years focused on data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications
Strong proficiency in SQL
Production experience with PostgreSQL as an application database
Experience writing and tuning queries by hand and reasoning about schema design, indexes, and query plans
Hands-on experience with data streaming and event processing using Kafka or an equivalent such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, Amazon Kinesis, or another cloud-based equivalent
Proficiency in Julia or Python
Experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments
Familiarity with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and/or Helm
Experience with GraphQL and TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js)
Collaborative mindset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Self-directed approach
Track record of thriving in hybrid or fully remote teams
