About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage all raw materials and finished goods at the manufacturing location
  • Order materials and distribute manufactured products
  • Manage material flow through warehouses and coordinate inbound and outbound delivery schedules
  • Maintain inventory accuracy
  • Evaluate processes for employee safety, product quality, and operational cost efficiency improvements
  • Interface daily with operations teams to identify and resolve problems, implement solutions, and coordinate schedules
  • Conduct operational studies to maximize workflow and facility space utilization
  • Make critical site decisions and troubleshoot issues to maximize efficiency and manpower
  • Supervise and assist department leads supporting warehouse and production activities
  • Manage a team of 5–15 personnel responsible for forklift operations, truck scheduling, cycle counting, and material ordering
  • Monitor attendance, performance goals, employee issues, and minor disputes; escalate disciplinary matters to plant management
  • Write, review, and update work instructions
  • Audit team work for safety, quality, and productivity; measure and report department effectiveness
  • Adjust staffing levels, shift schedules, and overtime to meet production demand
  • Train and coach employees on safety, quality, and work processes
  • Ensure DOT and customs compliance
  • Investigate shipping errors and implement preventive actions
  • Build and maintain partnerships with distributors and vendors
  • Develop action plans for supply and delivery issues with vendors and distributors
  • Provide input on warehouse equipment requirements and specifications
  • Maintain relationships with manufacturing, maintenance, and quality control personnel
  • Participate in and implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement projects
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste according to regulations
  • Communicate and enforce safety regulations and company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment and/or paint and coatings industry
  • Experience in materials management, scheduling and coordinating incoming and outgoing goods, warehouse management for shipping/receiving, and managing warehouse inventories for multiple buildings is a plus
  • Previous leadership with direct oversight of employee assignments, performance evaluation, accountability for results, and coordination with other departments in a manufacturing or distribution environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; SAP strongly preferred
  • Experience in expediting, inventory management, physical counts, and bills of materials
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with and continually develop vendors and contractors, including trucking and fleet drivers
  • Experience leading and managing a team
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment with salaried and hourly personnel
  • Ability to work hands-on with teams to drive performance improvements
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and drive results while contributing to production team goals
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Project, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and SAP
  • Ability to perform frequent sitting, standing, bending/twisting, squatting, and kneeling
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull objects
  • Ability to climb and descend stairs
