About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a portfolio of Employer's Liability claims, with primary responsibility for exposures arising in New York and Illinois
  • Handle complex Employer's Liability claims from assignment through closure
  • Investigate liability, damages, coverage, and claim exposure
  • Evaluate medical records, wage loss documentation, expert reports, and legal pleadings
  • Establish appropriate reserves and develop claim resolution strategies
  • Direct defense counsel, experts, and other vendors
  • Identify risk transfer, indemnification, and additional insured opportunities
  • Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and other resolution proceedings
  • Negotiate settlements and manage high-exposure claim outcomes
  • Collaborate with underwriting, risk control, insureds, brokers, and internal stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Attorney license preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of casualty, liability, workers compensation, employer's liability, or construction claims experience
  • Experience handling litigated bodily injury claims
  • Strong understanding of negligence principles, liability defenses, and damage evaluation
  • Ability to independently manage a high-severity claim inventory
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with claims management systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Must hold an active adjuster license or be willing and able to obtain and maintain all required state licenses
  • Participation independently in interviews; unauthorized recording, transcription, AI note-taking, or AI interview assistance tools may not be used without prior approval
