About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Research and provide practical commercial and legal advice to BESA members
  • Help members make informed commercial judgments about contracting risks and resolve disputes without formal court proceedings
  • Represent BESA members’ needs and interests to external stakeholders
  • Provide commercial advice, guidance, and assistance to other departments and parts of the BESA Group
  • Attend and deliver presentations at national and regional meetings, including lectures on commercial, legal, or contractual issues
  • Prepare agendas, minutes, and supporting documents for BESA committees and attend committee meetings
  • Undertake legal or commercial project work for the BESA Group
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects with competing internal and member priorities
  • Assist with responses to external consultations affecting members when required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Legal professional with a minimum of 1-year post-qualification experience
  • Experience advising on standard and non-standard construction contracts
  • Sound knowledge of the UK construction industry
  • Familiarity with the legislative framework affecting construction contracts
  • Understanding of commercial contracts
  • Proficient legal research skills
  • Professional written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient IT skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to communicate effectively with industry participants such as BESA members
  • Ability to work well within a small dynamic professional team and across a wider corporate group
  • Self-motivated and able to multitask and manage competing priorities
  • Willing and flexible attitude and readiness to take on new challenges
  • Commercial awareness
  • Enthusiasm, decision-making, initiative, and ability to originate action
  • Desire to exceed internal and external stakeholder needs
