About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide non-judgmental spiritual care to BIDMC patients, families, and staff regardless of faith tradition
- Conduct spiritual assessments
- Visit patients requesting chaplaincy services or referred by social workers, nurses, patients, physicians, or distressed families
- Address personal, spiritual, emotional, and psychosocial issues
- Document care promptly and appropriately in patients' online medical records
- Communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams
- Provide on-call coverage
- Occasionally preside at community events at the medical center
- Provide consultation and education to care teams on patient-family management
- Present and discuss clinical/pastoral work and spiritual material in formal and informal settings, teaching conferences, and seminars
- Participate in supervision appropriate to professional development
- Mentor and train less experienced staff
- Support idea sharing and feedback
- Pursue professional development opportunities and learn from mentors
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's degree in Divinity Studies or related degree required
- Minimum of 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education at an accredited site
- 0–1 years related work experience required
- Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access
- License Assoc. of Clinical Pastoral Ed preferred
- Completion of 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education preferred
- Chaplain certification by a nationally recognized certifying organization (APC, NACC, NAJC) or certification eligible
- Previous experience in a Level I hospital preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish, Portuguese) preferred
- Ability to communicate in English in written and oral formats
- Ability to provide care to neonatal, young adult, middle-age, and elderly patients
- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently and stand or move throughout the hospital campus
