About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Practice pharmacy in accordance with Massachusetts pharmacy laws and regulations, federal agencies, and departmental policies
  • Monitor patients in a specific unit or specialty service, including collecting patient data, interpreting drug-related laboratory data, performing physical assessments, interviewing patients, and identifying therapy goals
  • Develop, administer, and improve ambulatory pharmacy programs and services
  • Independently develop drug use evaluations, ADR reporting, clinic development and management, and business plans
  • Initiate, adjust, monitor, and recommend changes in drug therapy under protocol
  • Document clinical interventions in the electronic health record
  • Coordinate and interpret laboratory monitoring of drug therapy, including serum drug levels and electrolytes
  • Optimize patient outcomes, drug utilization, compliance, and adverse drug reaction management
  • Coordinate continuing education for medical and nursing staff and orient new pharmacy employees
  • Submit to pharmacy newsletters, participate in journal clubs, and provide professional staff in-services
  • Precept PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents and pharmacy students
  • Contribute to staff development and collaborate with clinical pharmacy specialists to develop pharmacy staff skills
  • Serve as a clinical pharmacy leader and drug information and educational resource

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required
  • Doctoral degree in Pharmacy preferred
  • Registration Massachusetts Pharmacist required
  • 1–3 years related work experience required
  • Completion of PGY1 accredited pharmacy residency or 3+ years of Clinical Pharmacy experience in hospital setting
  • Must obtain one or more certification (Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP), Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS), Ambulatory Care Pharmacy (BCACP)) within 18 months of hire
  • Understanding of insurance and adjudication processes
  • Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office applications
  • Pharmacy residency PGY2 specialty experience/fellowship or equivalent experience or 5+ years of clinical pharmacy experience preferred
  • Knowledge of complex/chronic disease states and specialty pharmacy therapies preferred
  • Ability to communicate complex information in English to medical center staff, patients, families, and external customers
  • Ability to provide patient care across neonatal, youth, young adult, middle-age, and elderly age groups
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently and stand or move throughout the hospital campus
