About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a leader in clinical pharmacy practice in ambulatory dermatology and other clinical areas as determined by hospital needs
  • Provide comprehensive clinical and distributive medication management services using evidence-based, safe, and cost-effective drug therapy
  • Serve as a drug information and educational resource for pharmacy staff, patients, residents/students, medical staff, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals
  • Participate in development of clinical guidelines/protocols, new programs/services, and professional development activities
  • Work Monday to Friday on the day shift
  • Practice pharmacy in accordance with Massachusetts pharmacy laws and regulations, Department of Public Health, FDA, DEA, and departmental policies
  • Monitor patients, collect patient-specific data, interpret drug-related laboratory data, perform physical assessments, interview patients, and identify therapy goals
  • Develop, administer, and improve ambulatory pharmacy programs and services, including drug use evaluations, ADR reporting, clinic development and management, and business plans
  • Initiate, adjust, monitor, and recommend changes in drug therapy under protocol
  • Document clinical interventions in the electronic health record
  • Coordinate and interpret laboratory monitoring of drug therapy
  • Evaluate and optimize patient outcomes, drug utilization, compliance, adverse drug reactions, unnecessary drug use, and duplication
  • Coordinate continuing education, orient new employees, contribute to pharmacy newsletters and journal clubs, and provide professional in-services
  • Precept PGY1 and PGY2 residents and pharmacy students
  • Contribute to staff development and collaborate with clinical pharmacy specialists to develop pharmacy staff skills

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required
  • Registration Massachusetts Pharmacist required
  • 1-3 years related work experience required
  • Completion of PGY1 accredited pharmacy residency or 3+ years of Clinical Pharmacy experience in hospital setting
  • Must obtain one or more certification (Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP), Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS), Ambulatory Care Pharmacy (BCACP)) within 18 months of hire
  • Understanding of insurance and adjudication processes
  • Experience with computer systems, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications
  • Pharmacy residency PGY2 specialty experience/fellowship or equivalent experience or 5+ years of clinical pharmacy experience preferred
  • Knowledge of complex/chronic disease states and specialty pharmacy therapies preferred
  • Ability to communicate complex information in English
  • Ability to provide patient care across neonatal, youth, young adult, middle age, and elderly age groups
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently and stand or move throughout the hospital campus
