About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform administrative and clinical functions supporting smooth and efficient practice operations
- Greet, check in, schedule, and assist patients medically
- Perform vital signs, height and weight measurements, EKGs, phlebotomy, routine procedure assistance, and point-of-care testing
- Keep patient care areas clean, organized, stocked, sterilized, and ready for use
- Escort patients to radiology, laboratory, and other ancillary service areas
- Monitor, order, and maintain medical equipment and supplies
- Review medication lists and retrieve permitted medications under licensed-provider supervision
- Collect specimens and implement quality-control standards for testing equipment
- Use OMR electronic medical records to queue prescription renewals, enter or scribe clinician-directed orders, and document completed tasks for billing
- Schedule diagnostic and laboratory tests; verify insurance, prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications
- Prepare schedules, patient charts, medical correspondence, and other clinical documents
- Perform computer-based check-in, registration, demographic and fiscal verification, copayment collection, and questionnaire distribution
- Record appointment cancellations and no-shows
- Monitor patients and visitors, facilitate timely patient flow, communicate delays, and liaise between patients and practice staff
- Answer and screen telephone calls as needed
- Report to the Practice Manager or RN, with input from physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED required
- 0-1 years related work experience required
- Basic familiarity with computers
- Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications
- MA, EMT, CNA, LNA certificate or diploma; or at least 5 months of direct patient care experience in a clinical or research setting
- Nursing or medical student with completion of one clinical rotation qualifies as direct patient care experience
- Written and oral communication in English
- Ability to provide patient care to young adults, middle-aged adults, and elderly patients
- Ability to meet physical requirements including medium work, standing/moving for most of the shift, lifting and carrying, pushing/pulling, keyboard use, and patient repositioning
- Ability to work with potential exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, fumes, dust, and other adverse environmental conditions
- Phlebotomy Certificate preferred
