About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Coach, role model, mentor, train, and share knowledge with Medical Assistants, MA student externs, and Practice Assistants
- Recommend more effective use of resources
- Lead small projects or act in the Manager’s absence
- Serve as first point of contact for the practice
- Assign tasks to MA staff and prepare and adjust staff MA schedules
- Identify and resolve OSHA compliance issues and manage expired supplies
- Assist with point-of-care testing and track test results
- Collaborate with the team to develop quality processes
- Greet patients and escort them to exam rooms
- Collect and communicate complete, accurate patient information in person and by phone
- Respond to phone calls and requests
- Ensure availability of x-rays, lab slips, medical records, and pertinent information
- Obtain vitals, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature
- Perform EKGs, injections, phlebotomy, departmental screening, lab tests, and specimen collection
- Assist providers and implement quality control standards
- Follow up on lab orders and communicate with the Practice Manager
- Procure medical records and ensure proper patient identification and filing
- Add medications to patient records in the EMR system
- Assemble records according to BIDHC/APG policy and handle patient information requests according to established guidelines
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED required
- Medical Assistant Certificate required
- 3-5 years related work experience required
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access
- 1-3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a primary care setting preferred
- Certified Medical Assistant preferred
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English
- Ability to comprehend and converse in English
- Ability to perform medium physical work, exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently
- Ability to stand and/or move around through the majority of the shift
