About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide phlebotomy and phlebotomy-related services for all patients
- Validate or update patient demographics and information in BILH computer systems, or collect and enter demographics, insurance information, and lab test orders
- Collect blood specimens using venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups
- Prepare specimens for courier transport to a BILH laboratory
- Perform administrative and clerical duties to open, operate, and close Patient Service Centers
- Assist with training, coaching, and mentoring PSC Phlebotomists when requested
- Travel to additional Patient Service Centers and doctors’ office sites when needed
- Comply with departmental policies and procedures
- Report to, receive training from, and take direction from the Phlebotomy Supervisor
- Participate in laboratory QA programs, competency assessments, and continuing education
- Provide services that meet patient and provider needs and support patient satisfaction
- Perform other similar tasks requested by the Phlebotomy Supervisor or Manager of BILH Phlebotomy Services
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment
- Comfortable working with minimal supervision
- Basic familiarity with computer applications preferred
- Phlebotomy certification from ASCP or another accredited agency preferred
- Previous experience as a phlebotomist preferred
- One or more years previous experience working in lab Patient Service Centers preferred
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and converse in English
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, grasp, manipulate, push/pull, and use a keyboard frequently
- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently
- Must be vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment
