About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide high-quality direct patient care in a team-based model
- Support smooth and efficient administrative and clinical practice operations
- Develop empathetic long-term relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
- Facilitate timely patient flow and communicate delays
- Engage patients regarding visit reasons and update medication and allergy lists
- Review screening questions such as PHQ-9
- Liaise between patients and practice staff
- Hand off patient information to providers entering exam rooms, including visit reason, abnormal vitals, and patient stories
- Obtain vital signs, height, and weight measurements
- Perform EKGs, point-of-care testing, and phlebotomy
- Administer immunizations when certified
- Assist with routine procedures
- Conduct outreach and basic health coaching for health maintenance and chronic disease management
- Monitor practice activity and gather related data
- Monitor, order, and maintain medical equipment and supplies
- Ensure equipment and supplies are clean, sterilized, stocked, and within expiration dates
- Use the EHR to queue prescription renewals and add medications for provider review
- Enter or scribe orders for tests, services, and appointments as directed by clinicians
- Document visit tasks accurately for billing
- Schedule diagnostic and laboratory tests
- Verify insurance, prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications
- Identify OSHA compliance issues and ensure patient safety practices
- Report adverse patient events and near misses
- Protect patient health information for treatment, payment, and operations purposes
- Report to the Practice Manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree in Health Science preferred
- License Medical Assistant Certificate preferred
- Registration Certified Nursing Assistant preferred
- Certificate 1 EMT Basic License preferred
- Certificate 2 Phlebotomy Certificate preferred
- 0-1 years related work experience required
- Demonstrated Medical Assistant (MA) competencies within one year of hire
- Basic familiarity with computers
- Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications
- Certified Medical Assistant preferred
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English
- Ability to comprehend and converse in English effectively
- Ability to provide patient care across neonatal, youth, young adult, middle-age, and elderly age groups
- Ability to work with infectious diseases, airborne pathogens, and bloodborne pathogens using required protective equipment
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 20 pounds frequently
- Ability to stand and/or move through the majority of the shift
- Ability to perform frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, twisting, grasping, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling, keyboard use, reaching, lifting, and carrying
- Ability to occasionally push items weighing up to 25 pounds and rarely lift/carry or push items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to push a wheelchair or wheeled bed containing a patient weighing up to 250 pounds with assistance
- Employees must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment
