About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide high quality, direct patient care in a team-based model to BIDHC patients
  • Support smooth and efficient administrative and clinical practice operations
  • Develop empathetic relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Facilitate timely patient flow and communicate delays to patients and providers
  • Engage patients regarding visit reasons and update medication and allergy lists
  • Review screening questions such as PHQ-9
  • Provide provider hand-offs covering visit reasons, abnormal vitals, and patient stories
  • Obtain vital signs, height, and weight measurements
  • Perform EKGs, point-of-care testing, and phlebotomy
  • Administer immunizations when certified and assist with routine procedures
  • Conduct patient outreach and basic health coaching for health maintenance and chronic disease needs
  • Monitor, order, and maintain medical equipment and supplies
  • Use the EHR to queue prescription renewals, add medications, enter or scribe clinician-directed orders, and document visit tasks for billing
  • Schedule diagnostic and laboratory tests
  • Verify insurance, prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications
  • Identify OSHA compliance issues and maintain patient safety practices
  • Report adverse patient events and near misses
  • Protect patient health information for treatment, payment, and operations
  • Report to the Practice Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Science preferred
  • License Medical Assistant Certificate preferred
  • Registration Certified Nursing Assistant preferred
  • Certificate 1 EMT Basic License preferred
  • Certificate 2 Phlebotomy Certificate preferred
  • 0-1 years related work experience required
  • Demonstrated Medical Assistant (MA) competencies within one year of hire
  • Basic familiarity with computers
  • Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English
  • Ability to comprehend and converse in English
  • Ability to provide patient care across neonatal, youth, young adult, middle age, and elderly age groups
  • Ability to stand and/or move around through the majority of the shift
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently
  • Must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment
