About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Float between Needham-region primary care offices during Monday-Friday daytime hours
- Provide high-quality direct patient care in a team-based model
- Support smooth and efficient administrative and clinical practice operations
- Develop empathetic relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
- Facilitate timely patient flow and communicate delays
- Update medication and allergy lists and review screening questions
- Act as liaison between patients and practice staff
- Provide hand-offs to providers entering exam rooms
- Obtain vital signs, height, and weight measurements
- Perform EKGs, point-of-care testing, and phlebotomy
- Administer immunizations for certified medical assistants
- Assist during routine procedures
- Conduct population-health outreach and basic health coaching
- Monitor health-maintenance and chronic-disease-management needs
- Order and maintain clean, sterilized, stocked, and unexpired medical equipment and supplies
- Use the EHR to queue prescription renewals, add medications, enter or scribe orders, and document tasks for billing
- Schedule diagnostic and laboratory tests
- Verify insurance, prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications
- Identify OSHA compliance issues and ensure patient-safety practices
- Report adverse patient events and near misses
- Protect patient health information for treatment, payment, and operations purposes
- Report to the Practice Manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree in Health Science preferred
- License Medical Assistant Certificate preferred
- Registration Certified Nursing Assistant preferred
- Certificate 1 EMT Basic License preferred
- Certificate 2 Phlebotomy Certificate preferred
- 0-1 years related work experience required
- Demonstrated Medical Assistant competencies within one year of hire
- Basic familiarity with computers
- Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English
- Ability to comprehend and converse in English
- Ability to provide patient care across neonatal, youth, young adult, middle age, and elderly age groups
- Must comply with influenza vaccination requirement as a condition of employment
- Ability to perform medium physical work, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 20 pounds frequently
- Ability to stand and/or move around through the majority of the shift
- Ability to work with protective equipment and potential exposure to infectious and bloodborne pathogens
