About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support Emergency Department Registration and insurance verification
  • Register patients presenting for visits and explain the registration process
  • Process co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, and balances; safeguard funds and reconcile the cash drawer
  • Assist patients with kiosk check-in
  • Complete Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaires and adjust coverage
  • Obtain, distribute, scan, process, and record required patient documents and signatures
  • Counsel patients regarding non-covered services, ABNs, consents, and waivers
  • Monitor the waiting area and support an efficient registration flow
  • Respond to patient concerns and potential safety issues while following established procedures
  • Maintain an orderly registration desk and secure confidential information
  • Initiate, schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments using calls, digital messages, orders, work queues, questionnaires, and searches
  • Apply clinical department scheduling protocols and coordinate with assigned department staff
  • Capture and verify scheduling and registration information, including physician, insurance, demographic, and contact details
  • Identify and communicate issues affecting appointment and patient-care timeliness and accuracy
  • Follow confidentiality and equipment-security guidelines when working remotely; maintain productivity, quality, and accuracy and communicate with supervisors and managers
  • Register patients for reimbursement and initial claim submission
  • Create and assign guarantors, including personal/family, workers’ compensation, third-party, and behavioral health guarantors
  • Verify insurance coverage using real-time eligibility and act on insurer responses
  • Apply appropriate guarantor and insurance to patient visits
  • Communicate financial clearance, contract status, self-pay status, and payment responsibility; schedule Financial Counseling as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school degree or equivalent required
  • Associate’s degree preferred
  • 1-3 years related work experience
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access
  • Able to work every other weekend and every other holiday
  • On-call rotation approximately once every 10 weeks
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with some independent decision-making
  • Able to process electronic information and data accurately and efficiently
  • Call Center and/or telephone customer service experience preferred
  • Strong typing skills of 40+ wpm preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Bilingual written and verbal communication skills preferred
  • Familiarity with EHR software preferred
