Patient Service Representative – GI Call Center

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Answer, screen and process a high volume of incoming calls professionally
- Use phone scripts and guidelines to triage calls
- Determine appointment type, appropriate provider and urgency using appropriate questions and independent judgment
- Use centralized scheduling systems and software applications to schedule appointments
- Verify and update patient demographic information and transfer patients to registration as needed
- Obtain referrals for scheduled visits and document them in the system
- Document payer information, including workers' compensation and auto liability
- Inform patients about visit preparation, required documents, films, notes, diagnostic-test preparation and protocols
- Coordinate data sets and availability of professional services for efficient, cost-effective scheduling of visits, tests and procedures
- Address scheduling problems and concerns with the manager
- Record and forward accurate messages to providers and staff
- Triage urgent calls to appropriate staff
- Respond to information and assistance requests within scope of knowledge and authority
- Resolve and respond efficiently and professionally to provider email requests
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED required
- 1-3 years related work experience required
- Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access
- Call center and/or telephone customer service experience preferred
- Strong typing skills of 40+ wpm preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Bilingual written and verbal communication skills preferred
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English
- Ability to comprehend and converse in English effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers
- Ability to make decisions guided by general instructions and practices requiring some interpretation
- Ability to solve varied problems requiring analysis or interpretation
- Ability to follow precedents and procedures, set priorities and organize work within general guidelines
- Ability to work collaboratively in small teams
- Ability to provide professional, respectful, high-level customer service and remain calm in stressful situations
- Sedentary work capability, exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally; sitting most of the time with occasional walking and standing
- Must be vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment
