About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Answer, screen and process a high volume of incoming calls in a professional manner
  • Use phone scripts and guidelines to triage calls
  • Determine appointment type, appropriate provider and urgency using appropriate questions and independent judgment
  • Schedule appointments using centralized scheduling systems and software applications
  • Verify and update patient demographic information and transfer patients to registration as needed
  • Obtain referrals and document payer information, including workers' compensation and auto liability
  • Inform patients about visit preparation, required documents, diagnostic test and procedure protocols
  • Coordinate data sets, professional services, staff, space, equipment and timing for efficient scheduling
  • Address scheduling problems and concerns with the manager
  • Record and forward accurate messages to providers and staff
  • Triage urgent calls to appropriate staff
  • Respond to information and assistance requests within scope of knowledge and authority
  • Resolve and respond to provider email requests efficiently and professionally

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 1-3 years related work experience required
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access
  • Call Center and/or telephone customer service experience preferred
  • Strong typing skills, 40+ wpm
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Bilingual written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English
  • Ability to comprehend and converse in English
  • Ability to provide high-level customer service and remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to perform sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally
