About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform administrative and clinical functions supporting efficient orthopedic practice operations
- Greet patients and provide courteous assistance by phone and in person
- Perform medical assisting duties including vital signs, height and weight, EKGs, phlebotomy, and assistance during routine procedures
- Clean, organize, stock, and prepare patient care areas
- Escort patients to radiology, laboratory, and other ancillary service areas
- Monitor, order, clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and supplies
- Review medication lists in the electronic medical record for licensed practitioner review
- Perform point-of-care testing and specimen collection while implementing quality-control standards
- Provide patient instructions for tests and procedures
- Queue prescription renewals and enter or scribe clinician-directed orders in OMR
- Document completed tasks in OMR for facility billing
- Schedule diagnostic and laboratory tests and verify insurance, prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications
- Prepare schedules, patient charts, medical correspondence, and other clinical documents
- Perform patient check-in, registration, demographic and fiscal verification, copayment collection, and health care proxy verification
- Record appointment cancellations and no-shows in the computer system
- Monitor patient and visitor flow, communicate delays, answer and screen telephone calls, and liaise between patients and practice staff
- Maintain organized and stocked waiting-room materials
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED required
- 0–1 years related work experience required
- Basic familiarity with computers and ability to navigate web-based applications
- MA, EMT, CNA, LNA certificate or diploma; or at least 5 months of direct patient care experience in a clinical or research setting
- Nursing or medical student with completion of one clinical rotation qualifies under the direct patient care alternative
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English
- Ability to comprehend and converse in English
- Ability to provide patient care to young adults, middle-aged adults, and elderly patients
- Ability to work collaboratively in small teams and provide professional customer service
- Ability to meet physical requirements including medium work, standing/moving for most of the shift, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, keyboard use, and patient repositioning
- Ability to work with potential exposure to chemicals, infectious diseases, airborne pathogens, and bloodborne pathogens; protective equipment required
- Preferred: Phlebotomy Certificate

Comp & perks- Base hourly wage range of $21.00–$28.26
- Shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, and overtime pay may increase compensation
