About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide phlebotomy and phlebotomy-related services for all patients
- Validate or update patient demographic and other information in the BILH computer system
- Collect and accurately enter demographic information, insurance information, and lab test orders
- Collect blood specimens through venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups
- Prepare specimens for courier transport to a BILH laboratory
- Perform administrative and clerical duties to open, operate, and close the Patient Service Center daily
- Assist with training, coaching, and mentoring PSC Phlebotomists when requested
- Travel to additional Patient Service Centers and doctor’s office sites when needed
- Comply with departmental policies and procedures
- Report to, receive training from, and take direction from the Phlebotomy Supervisor
- Participate in laboratory quality assurance programs, competency assessments, and continuing education
- Provide services that meet patient and provider needs and support patient satisfaction
- Perform other similar tasks requested by the Phlebotomy Supervisor or Manager of BILH Phlebotomy Services
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED
- Associate’s Degree or college classes welcomed
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment
- Comfortable working with minimal supervision
- Basic familiarity with computer applications preferred
- Phlebotomy certification from ASCP or another accredited agency preferred
- Previous experience as a phlebotomist preferred
- One or more years previous experience working in lab Patient Service Centers preferred
- Ability to read and write in English
- Ability to understand spoken English and communicate effectively in basic English
- Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures
- Ability to interact respectfully with employees, professional staff, and external contacts
- Ability to provide high-level customer service and remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently
- Ability to stand for periods of time or move throughout the hospital campus
- Staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment
