About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide phlebotomy and phlebotomy-related services for all patients
  • Validate or collect and accurately enter patient demographic, insurance, and lab test order information into a BILH computer system
  • Collect blood specimens using venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups
  • Prepare specimens for courier transport to a BILH laboratory
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties to open, operate, and close the Patient Service Center daily
  • Assist with training, coaching, and mentoring PSC Phlebotomists when requested
  • Travel to additional Patient Service Centers and doctors’ office sites when needed
  • Comply with departmental policies and procedures
  • Report to, receive training from, and take direction from the Phlebotomy Supervisor
  • Participate in lab QA programs, competency assessments, and continuing education
  • Provide services meeting patient and provider needs and support patient satisfaction
  • Perform other similar tasks requested by the Phlebotomy Supervisor or Manager of BILH Phlebotomy Services

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision
  • Basic familiarity with computer applications preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification from ASCP or another accredited agency preferred
  • Previous experience as a phlebotomist preferred
  • One or more years previous experience working in lab Patient Service Centers preferred
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to understand spoken English and communicate effectively in basic English
  • Ability to perform light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently
  • Ability to stand for periods of time or move throughout the hospital campus
  • Must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment
