About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Educate patients and families on chemotherapy and immunotherapy
- Provide guidance, reassurance, and clear communication throughout treatment
- Prepare patients for treatment initiation, including pre-treatment staging, laboratory work, diagnostic testing, and venous access placement
- Serve as a clinical liaison between BIDMC Boston and BID Needham providers
- Support Hematology/Oncology physicians and nurse practitioners with telephone triage, medication prescription renewals, and outside laboratory ordering
- Coordinate care with VNA, hospice and home care agencies, and multidisciplinary services
- Assist with pre-authorization processes
- Ensure accurate scheduling of consultations, diagnostics, and treatments
- Perform patient assessments and collect clinical histories
- Participate in rounds, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives
- Contribute to process and care delivery improvements in outpatient oncology
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- 3–5 years of related nursing experience
- Oncology nursing experience
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and web-based applications
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Outpatient oncology experience preferred
- Care coordination or nurse navigator experience preferred
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication with patients, families, and care teams
- Ability to manage complex, non-routine situations with confidence and professionalism
- Collaborative mindset and commitment to service excellence
- Passion for continuous learning and advancing oncology nursing practice
- Must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment
