About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform duties related to the Operating Room booking process for patients requiring surgical procedures
  • Coordinate patient surgeries with surgeon offices, Anesthesia, and operating rooms
  • Enter surgical scheduling information into the O.R. Scheduling database
  • Prepare admission/registration forms and perform clerical scheduling duties
  • Coordinate patient procedures with anesthesiologists to ensure room and anesthesia availability
  • Schedule surgical procedures for the OR, OB, and CV suite
  • Coordinate arrangements with Radiology, O.R., ESWL, EEG, Pathology, and other departments
  • Identify and schedule appropriate pre-op appointments, including PAT, Prehab, and Total Joint Class
  • Communicate and problem-solve with physician office staff and healthcare teams regarding surgical cases
  • Prepare the following day's surgical schedule and notify appropriate personnel of additions
  • Solicit surgical volume when block time becomes available to maximize OR utilization
  • Notify Anesthesia, O.R., and Ambulatory Surgery of schedule changes
  • Check in and announce surgeons' arrival to the OR suite
  • Perform Department Secretary II duties as needed
  • Assist co-workers when Perioperative Services is short-staffed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment
  • Ability to use computers and telephone/paging systems
  • Ability to coordinate surgical procedures with anesthesiologists, surgeon offices, operating rooms, and other departments
  • Ability to schedule procedures in an O.R. Scheduling System
  • Ability to prepare admission/registration forms and surgical schedules
  • Ability to perform clerical and Department Secretary II duties as needed
  • Ability to assist co-workers when short-staffed
  • Relevant education, training, experience, certifications, and geography may affect compensation
