About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess volunteer and mentee eligibility for participation in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program
  • Conduct volunteer orientations, interviews, home visits, and enrollment activities
  • Facilitate parent/child interviews, provide child safety education, and complete enrollment procedures
  • Identify families needing additional services and make referrals
  • Engage with Ready to be Matched youth and families through scheduled updates and activities
  • Partner with schools to foster youth referrals
  • Review references and conduct volunteer and client reassessments
  • Analyze enrollment information and recommend participants and matches based on qualifications and interests
  • Consult with staff on matching decisions and provide match recommendations
  • Maintain accurate records and use technology for data reporting and analysis
  • Facilitate in-person match meetings and coordinate schedules
  • Provide ongoing support focused on child safety, relationship development, youth outcomes, and volunteer satisfaction
  • Coach match participants using active listening and questioning techniques
  • Apply child safety and risk management protocols
  • Address challenges within matches and develop interventions for additional support
  • Conduct and track match surveys
  • Conduct exit interviews for match closures and assess re-matching potential
  • Support philanthropic efforts and foster donor and business partnerships
  • Represent the organization in the community and collaborate on additional projects
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as directed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW) or related field
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) required
  • Experience in the social services field is preferred
  • Familiarity with psychological diagnoses and medications is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word)
  • New York State Driver’s License
  • Ability to travel across Nassau/Suffolk Counties
  • Ability to work two Saturdays per month, with a Monday off during those weeks
  • Ability to perform light work, including occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force
  • Ability to stand, walk, and communicate verbally for work activities
