About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build the mechanical supply base supporting Biofire’s transition from low-rate initial production to full-rate production
  • Own mechanical commodity strategy across machining, injection molding, metal injection molding, and metals fabrication
  • Qualify suppliers and drive Biofire’s mechanical supplier base through full-rate production qualification
  • Reduce mechanical bill-of-materials cost through DFX-driven process conversions, volume renegotiation, competitive bidding, and improved commercial terms
  • Evaluate mechanical parts for single-source risk and develop a prioritized dual-sourcing roadmap
  • Negotiate and formalize MSAs and stocking agreements covering pricing, payment terms, lead times, and quality expectations
  • Maintain supply continuity during the production ramp by monitoring supplier capacity and translating production schedules into supplier demand signals
  • Participate in DFX design reviews with mechanical engineering to identify manufacturability, cost, and quality risks
  • Build and maintain a mechanical supply chain roadmap aligned with the product roadmap and production ramp plan
  • Coach and develop buyers on supplier capability assessment, quote evaluation, and scorecard input

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes: MIM, injection molding, machining, and metals fabrication
  • Ability to recognize process-conversion and cost-saving opportunities, assess supplier capability fit, and interpret engineering drawings independently
  • Experience building supplier qualification frameworks, including PPAP, FAI, capacity audits, and quality audits
  • Experience driving measurable BOM cost reduction through DFX collaboration, should-cost modeling, and commercial negotiation
  • Experience developing dual-sourcing strategies and managing second-source qualification based on risk, total cost of ownership, and supplier/tooling considerations
  • Experience negotiating commercial agreements such as MSAs and stocking agreements covering pricing, lead time, stocking, and quality terms
  • Ability to influence engineering, quality, and production cross-functionally without direct authority
  • Experience coaching and mentoring buyers
  • Experience supporting hardware products through transition from low-rate to full-rate production
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, supply chain, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Several years of experience in mechanical commodity management or strategic sourcing
  • Must be a United States citizen, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee admitted into the United States due to US Export Control Regulations
