About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and implement global sourcing and category strategies for APIs, pharmaceutical packaging materials, and external manufacturing services
- Strategically manage CMOs/CDMOs and international suppliers throughout the entire product lifecycle
- Own relevant direct procurement categories, including active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), primary and secondary packaging, and contract manufacturing
- Analyze global sourcing markets, supplier structures, capacities, cost trends, and supply risks
- Conduct complex tenders and negotiate framework, supply, and contract manufacturing agreements
- Build and develop strategic supplier relationships, including supplier performance management and escalation management
- Work closely with QA, QC, Regulatory Affairs, Technical Operations, MSAT, Packaging Development, and Supply Chain
- Support product transfers, technology transfers, new product launches, and changes within the external manufacturing network
- Assess and mitigate critical supply chain risks, including single-source dependencies, capacity constraints, material discontinuations, and supplier failures
- Develop and implement dual-sourcing, regionalization, and business continuity strategies
- Support supplier qualification, audits, change control processes, and quality agreements in collaboration with relevant functions
- Identify and realize cost, contractual, and consolidation opportunities while ensuring quality, compliance, and security of supply
Requirements
What you’ll need- Several years of experience in strategic procurement within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or another comparably regulated industry
- Extensive experience in direct procurement and/or category management
- Excellent knowledge of at least two of the following areas: APIs/active pharmaceutical ingredients; primary and secondary packaging; contract manufacturing/CMO/CDMO
- Experience strategically managing external manufacturing partners and complex international supplier structures
- Good understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and supply chains
- Experience with pharmaceutical packaging materials, such as vials, stoppers, closures, blisters, bottles, tubes, films, and other primary and secondary packaging components
- Solid understanding of GMP, supplier qualification, quality agreements, change control, and regulatory requirements
- Experience with international tenders, contract negotiations, and strategic supplier management
- Excellent understanding of cost structures, sourcing markets, capacity risks, and supplier dependencies
- Experience collaborating with Quality, Regulatory Affairs, TechOps, Supply Chain, and other technical functions
- Strong analytical, structured, and entrepreneurial approach to work
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Business-fluent English; German language skills are an advantage
