About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and manage high-voltage project engineering teams through coaching, training, and mentoring junior-level engineering staff.
- Oversee development, implementation, and management of safe utility-scale engineering designs.
- Develop metrics and set objectives for meeting engineering obligations from project award through project completion.
- Maintain designs compliant with company, state, and federal safety regulations, local/state/international building codes, and company best practices.
- Communicate in leadership, management, and technical spaces.
- Deliver economical designs satisfying the power plant’s design life.
- Collaborate with departments, vendors, and outside firms on ideas, methods, materials, equipment, software, and technologies.
- Drive consistency and standard approaches across multiple project designs.
- Develop process and collaboration initiatives; set goals and determine KRA/KPI/KSA and training priorities.
- Engage in electrical interconnections, electrical studies, NEC code, IEEE standards, solar, substation, transmission, and power plant design.
- Manage, recruit, interview, and hire engineering staff; provide coaching and career development.
- Provide guidance on large, complex energy park projects.
- Coordinate designs, material quantity takeoffs, proposals, schedules, costs, and savings with estimating.
- Coordinate engineering resource needs with the Director – Engineering.
- Capture owner-provided information and apply technical requirements into conceptual-procurement design.
- Support technical reviews and vetting of equipment and products with Supply Chain, Estimating, and Construction.
- Perform commercial/contract reviews.
- Attend job/career fairs occasionally.
- Identify opportunities to streamline work and reduce waste.
- Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited college.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license is strongly preferred.
- 10 or more years of progressive engineering experience and three or more years of leadership experience, in a related energy or construction industry (i.e., high voltage, utilities, power generation).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
- Up to 25% travel required, subject to fluctuations as needs dictate.
- Interpersonal skills – Ability to supervise, influence, and persuade people and groups toward common objectives.
- Working knowledge of equipment and their appropriate applications.
- Effective communication skills (oral, written, listening, presentation) to effectively work with owners, vendors, employees, landowners, etc.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational, scheduling, planning, and prioritization skills.
- Accounting skills (math and record-keeping).
- Ability to work with and handle sensitive and confidential information.
- May be required to become a qualified individual in pursuit of company contract licensing.
