About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design sustainable infrastructure, microservice solutions, and robust production environments with Engineering teams
Automate tools and infrastructure to reduce manual work
Monitor applications and participate in an on-call rotation as required
Own the design and specification of infrastructure initiatives
Break infrastructure initiatives into executable team tasks
Lead projects spanning multiple engineering teams
Operate and maintain Bloomreach Engagement core infrastructure on Google Cloud
Manage Kubernetes, databases, and Google Cloud components
Support developers and review design proposals
Validate application performance and availability
Develop core application components such as logging or authorization when needed
Retain understanding of and responsibility for all shipped changes, including AI-assisted work

Requirements

What you’ll need

At least 5 years of production experience
Production experience with Kubernetes, including operating 24x7 production clusters
Experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure; GCP preferred
Understanding of public-cloud risks and benefits
Familiarity with infrastructure as code principles
Ability to choose between cloud-managed solutions and self-hosted alternatives
Ability to read and understand Python or Go code
Ability to review and evaluate AI-generated Python code for correctness, security, and suitability
Ability to develop custom tooling when needed, with or without AI assistance
Experience turning loosely defined problems into designs and specifications
Experience writing design proposals and reviewing others’ designs
Experience leading projects across multiple teams
Experience independently delivering maintenance or project tasks
Active interest in Kubernetes and related technologies
Participation in DevOps-related conferences
Hands-on experience configuring pod/container security contexts, network policies, roles and role bindings, pod affinity, host paths, pod disruption budgets, priority classes, and node taints
Experience optimizing resource requests/limits, HPAs, and VPAs
Deep understanding of managed Kubernetes clusters, node pools, cluster features, versions, and autoscaling configuration
Experience upgrading Kubernetes clusters without interrupting live applications
Experience writing Terraform modules with multiple interconnected resources
Experience setting up monitoring systems and configuring alerts
On-duty experience, Grafana, and Prometheus experience preferred
Experience with DevOps, orchestration/configuration management, and CI/CD technologies including Terraform, GitLab, Ansible, and Docker
Experience onboarding and training new team members
