About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work closely with the primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care
  • Review and update health records
  • Measure vital signs, including pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height
  • Prepare treatment rooms for examinations
  • Greet patients and community members respectfully
  • Prepare and review patient charts by verifying diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records
  • Perform clerical duties, including checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Degree or GED
  • Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the listed certifying organizations, required within 12 months of start date
  • If unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable, except in South Carolina
  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association, required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire and required prior to independent patient care at BSMH
  • Basic computer skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
